Disasterpeace - Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar

This is another album cover I did, this time for Disasterpeace. It went through quite a few versions, and originally the background was a kind of angular vector thing. Doing it all pixel was a late decision.

Interesting to read that this image wasn't meant to be pixelart at first (or everything pixeled), because it works really well.
Would you like to share some of the process of this image? I'd love to see some "how do I work" posts from you.

Brilliant work. Evocative, both in tone and time. Wonderful stuff.

Thanks for the comments people.

Markus: I don't know about going too deep into the process but I have some earlier versions of the piece around which I don't mind sharing. This was my initial sketch for the thing.

And this was an earlier version with the vector background.

Dusan, no twitter but you can see my pixeljoint gallery here.

Thanks for the comments!

Wow, that's an interesting evolution. Thanks a lot for sharing.
I see you use lots of media to express yourself (painting, pixelart, 3D). Do you have a favourite or does it not matter for you how you work?

It depends entirely on what particular thing I want to make, really! I feel pretty comfortable with pixel art just from habit/experience though.

Yo Jackal, I posted this on 8bc.org because it's simply gorgeous but people keep thinking I made it? I just wanted to let you know I'm not trying to rip you off! I've told at least 5 different people that you were the artist. Anyway, just a heads up.
